Welcome to the modern world of dating!
The idea of modern dating has become more of a rhetorical challenge than a romantic one, to be honest.
Most of us even have a relationship phase that’s called ‘I don’t know what’s happening between us!’ or ‘Waiting for a miracle!’…
So, we’ve rounded up all of the new dating terms for you here!
If you’re single, we hope this helps you prepare for your next liaison. Good luck!
#1 Orbiting
Don’t be surprised. It has nothing to do with the moon or the planets.
Orbiting means when someone ghosts you but still engages with you on social media.

Example: An orbiter might ignore your phone calls, but watch your Instragram stories. They will block you on WhatsApp but will retweet your latest cat meme. It is, in a way, some sort of mind game. Do not let them win!
#2 Curving
Curving is the new way to reject someone but with a smile! Or in other words, it’s a way of letting someone down without explicitly telling them you’re no longer interested. Rather than ignoring your text, a curver will only reply several days later.

Eg: They will say "sorry" and “work has been crazy” – but we’ve all heard that excuse before.
#3 Breadcrumbing
Breadcrumbing is essentially a fancy name for stringing someone along. It’s sending a blank text like “Hey, how’s it going?” with no intention of continuing the conversation!

They want to leave little nuggets for you so you think they're still interested. But, FYI they're notinterested! Don’t fall for it!
#4 Kittenfishing
This term is coined by dating app Hinge, which is essentially a diet version of catfishing: when someone pretends to be a completely different person online.

A kittenfish would be using a profile photo on a dating app that is a few years old, or heavily edited.
Usually, it’s a way to promote the best version of themselves to land potential dates.
#5 R-bombing
Not to be confused with ghosting – R-bombing is when someone reads your message but doesn’t reply! We’re sure you have seen this trend everywhere.

They will ignore texts that they don't deem interesting enough and later will come up with an excuse.
Don’t give in! That’s the most bogus excuse in the book.
#5 Zombieing
Zombieing is when one person ghosts another, only to return “from the dead” after a while. They’re not gone forever, just expect a reply several weeks later….
via GIPHY
“Hi, sorry for the lack of comms. Want to do something this week?”
#6 Instagrandstanding!
As the name would suggest, this is all about curating your Instagram feed with another person in mind, with hopes that your posts might capture their attention.
Maybe you’ve posted a photo of you in their favourite bar or perhaps you’ve taken a selfie wearing an item of clothing they once complimented you before.

It might sound awkward but, according to a recent survey by dating site Plenty of Fish, more than half of singletons are Instagrandstanding!
Are you guilty of any of the above?
