It’s that time of the year again, guys! That time when you should be thinking about filing your taxes.

It’s also that time of the year when you’re likely to be doing these 6 things. You don’t have to deny it, we know you do it every year. We do.

#1 Ask your boss where your EA form is

Don’t be shy about asking your boss where your EA form is because truth be told, it acts as a reminder for them that they need to file their taxes too. Just think of it as you doing them a favour in return for a favour. Everybody wins… except nobody does.

#2 Click on the “Forgot Password” button

You know you’re going to hit that button when it comes time to file your taxes, don’t even bother trying to deny it. It’s okay, we’re the same. With so many passwords to your favourite online stores to remember, who has the brain space to remember the e-filing password that you only use once a year, right?

#3 Rummage through your wallet and drawer for receipts

Much like your keys, these rectangle pieces of paper with some numbers printed on them can never be found when you need them the most. C’mon receipts, stop playing hide-and-seek already! We need to calculate our reliefs!

#4 Try to decipher your now-faded receipts

Yup, after spending 49 hours looking for your receipts, you find them… only the printing on them has completely faded leaving you with no proof that you ever bought anything that qualifies for tax relief. How do they expect us to keep these things for 7 years?!

#5 Double, triple, and even quadruple check your bank account details

We know nobody likes taxes, but you can’t deny how good it feels to find out that you’ve overpaid your taxes during the year and are due for a refund. That being said though, upon seeing the instruction to ensure your personal and bank account details are correct, you’ll definitely check again and again to ensure the details are correct.

#6 Promise yourself that you’ll remember your password and keep a digital copy of your receipts for next year

Of course, you don’t want to go through all the hassle of generating a new password every year and miss out on tax reliefs, so naturally you’ll vow to do these things… and then completely forget to do it… until the next tax filing season.

Get all those 6 things you know you’ll definitely do out of the way early everyone, because the deadline for filing your taxes this year is on the 30th of April 2018!
