A story, and a whole lot of confidence — that was all a con-artist couple needed to rob a businessman in Thane, India.

The businessman was duped of Indian rupees 4Lakhs (over RM400,000) after buying a fake gold necklace following a moving story by the couple.
They had approached him and said that the necklace was “unearthed” from their ancestral property in Vapi, Gujarat and that it cost a fortune. Due to financial constraints, they had to cash it out at a lower price, a story which eventually convinced the businessman after some time.
The plan was meticulous; when the trader asked for the beads, the couple first showed him 2 real gold beads claiming it to be part of the ornament. After making sure that the beads were authentic, he decided to buy the entire necklace from them, not knowing a plot twist was on its way.

Following a bid, they both settled down for ‘only’ Rs 4 Lakh, which the couple claimed was much less than the market price.
He lodged a police report when he found out he’d been conned and investigation is currently underway. We hope they find the con artists before claiming another victim.
That story may have unfolded thousands of KM away, but it’s a reminder to be alert and aware of a potential scams. Stay vigilant!
