Football fans, brace yourselves.
UEFA just announced the postponement of its flagship national team competition, UEFA EURO 2020, unanimously coming to this decision after a video conference with UEFA’s Executive Committee. This is in order to not put any unnecessary pressure on the public services involved in staging matches, given the existing panic over COVID-19 outbreak.

Here are the list of matches that are put on hold until further notice:
- All UEFA competitions and matches (including friendlies) for both men and women.
- The UEFA EURO 2020 play-off matches, which were scheduled for end of March, is postponed to the start of June, also is subject to change.
- Copa America 2020
The proposed new dates for UEFA EURO 2020 are 11 June to 11 July 2021, 12 months from the initial dates.
A working group has been set up to examine calendar solutions that would allow for the completion of the current season and any other consequences of the decisions made today.
UEFA President, Aleksander Ceferin said when announcing the decision that for now, the health of players and citizens is of utmost importance and having to ‘celebrate’ its 60th anniversary in an empty stadium would definitely not bring joy to the team.
