We should all know about Zack Snyder’s Justice League and how the director’s cut happened by now. Basically, Snyder was the original director but had to step down following a family tragedy. Joss Whedon of Avengers fame was brought in to finish the film. He then shot and edited a big chunk of new scenes, and the movie was released in theatres in 2017.
However, the result was bad, the critical and commercial ratings were horrible, and Snyder/Justice League fans were pissed.
Almost four years later, a fan campaign calling to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut was successful and we finally get to see Snyder’s original vision for Justice League with a 4-hour runtime.

He knew that the origin story is one of the most important parts of a superhero character. Hence the long runtime.
“In order for the Justice League to have any gravitas, you really have to understand who they were and what made it difficult for them to come together. In the comics, the origin stories of all these heroes are well known,” Snyder shared.

“When you introduce a superhero, it’s important to understand what makes him tick, where his powers came from. Mythologically speaking, those things are often intertwined: your origin stories and where your powers lie. We were very interested in understanding where these characters came from. Then we painted, with a detailed brush, who they are when we meet them to join the Justice League.”
Here’s a fun fact: Snyder didn’t even watch the theatrical release, so he doesn’t know how it’s different. One thing’s for sure, the Snyder Cut contains existing footage from his original shoot, except a new scene between Batman and the Joker.
Asian fans broke HBO GO
There was obviously a lot of hype surrounding the movie in the days leading up to the release after such a long wait for fans of the DC Extended Universe.
In Malaysia, the director’s cut was scheduled to open at 3pm on 18 March. But things didn’t go as planned due to the traffic surge. Thankfully, HBO Asia fixed the technical difficulties and fan reactions began pouring in, full of praises.
Even the Russo brothers, who were behind Marvel films, were excited to see the Snyder Cut.
Everyone held their own watch parties
Since the only way to catch Zack Snyder’s Justice League is by streaming on demand, the fans stayed home and had watch parties to indulge in the movie. We’re done anti-socialising so this was the best answer to life post-lockdown.
