In two separate incidents, two toddlers trapped in their parents’ cars were saved by firemen!
The first incidents happened in Kepala Batas, Penang on March 2. The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at about 11.20 and they rushed to the scene.

According to their statement, a one year-old boy was trapped in his mother’s car with the engine left running. In just about 10 minutes, they freed the poor boy.

The second incident was of a two year-old girl in Bayan Lepas, trapped in her father’s car. Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Department Operation officer Mustakin Moh Salleh said that the engine was also running, just like the first incident.

The father of the girl allegedly said that she might have played with the car’s locking mechanism and eventually got trapped inside. Using rescue equipment, they managed to free the girl by lowering the car’s power window.

Parents, it’s normal for your children to be curious about things around them. So, we have to be more alert. Be sure to keep an eye on them and don’t forget to child-proof your car!

Here’s how you can ensure your car’s safe for your child.

  • Don’t leave the keys in the car

  • Ensure the windows are always locked

  • Child-lock the rear door

  • Secure unused seat-belts

  • Put away sharp or poisonous items

  • Supervise them! Never leave them alone
