We recently read about five men swimming to Singapore and guess what? We’ve had another who swam to Penang this time.

A 28 year-old man was caught after trying to dodge the cops by swimming to Butterworth on Monday (July 12). The man who swam about 300m from George Town was arrested when he ran out of steam and the officers spotted him at about 6pm.
Luckily, they were able to act in time to save the man from probably losing his life. They threw a lifebuoy and pulled him back to safety. Investigations revealed that the man had tried to cross the district to see a friend on the side. However, when he wasn’t given the permission to do so, he resorted to taking a dive, literally.

George Town Assistant Commissioner Soffian confirmed that the man is originally from Bayan Lepas and is believed to be homeless. It was also reported that he had not returned home in a long time according to his mother. Investigations are ongoing.
If you know anyone who is struggling, please let them know that it is okay to reach out. It’s a difficult time for all, so let’s be there for each other and please DON’T travel out unless completely necessary.
