A lot is being done by countries to #FlattenTheCurve but we guess it’s time to pause and reflect on what we are doing, as responsible citizens.
With the spread of the coronavirus, Australia’s second biggest city, Melbourne just announced tougher restrictions for its residents. Residents there are now bracing for further announcements on business closures.
Neighbouring states are also stepping up precautions after the state of Victoria imposed a nightly curfew for the capital. The state reported 429 new cases on Monday, which is devastating, especially knowing that Victoria makes up about a quarter of the national economy.
The new restrictions do not allow people to step out of their houses from 8pm to 5am, for six weeks, except for work or to receive or give care.
Supermarkets will remain open, restaurant takeaways and delivery services will continue but certain businesses that were previously open will be asked to shut down. Schools were said to move to remote learning starting Wednesday.
The surge in new cases might also delay Australia – New Zealand travelling, said New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Arden. Both countries had previously mentioned that the international travel between the two countries could restart in September.
Prime Minister, Scott Morrison said that it ‘s “regrettably necessary” to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
We know it’s a hard pill to swallow. We know that 2020 hasn’t been the best year yet, but sometimes, we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. Please follow the SOPs and let us all work together in containing the spread of COVID-19.
