National para athlete, Mohamad Ridzuan Puzi, has won the 2018 Best Asian Male Para Athlete award!

The 31-year-old Paralympic and Asian Games Gold Medalist is the first Malaysian para athlete to win the award for his performances in sprint and long jump events. The para athlete will be receiving his award in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on February 5.

“I never expected to win the award as there were a few other athletes who have also done well in the Asian Para Games,” said Ridzuan, who won gold in the blue riband event in the World Para Championships in Doha in 2015.

“It’s an honour as I’m the first Malaysian to win this award.”

Ridzuan Puzi created history in the Asian Para Games by not only winning the 100m T36 event, but also breaking the world record as well at a personal best of 11.87 seconds. He also won 3 gold medals and broke the record in the long jump event, with a personal best recorded at 5.49m, erasing the previous record set by China’s Yang Yi Fei in 2016 at 5.45m.

“Ridzuan is a role model to the other Malaysian para athletes – they should emulate him and believe in their own abilities.” His coach, R. Jaganathan said.

Ridzuan Puzi is definitely one to admire as he teaches the value of being discipline and putting in the time and effort to train. Regardless of circumstances, when we put our heart and soul into it, we are bound to be victorious.
