It’s good to see that humanity is not totally gone after all. While there are so many out there with a “it’s not my problem” attitude, stories like this make us feel warm and hopeful.
A few residents in Singapore recently gained attention online after a picture of them trying their best to put out fire in their neighbour’s apartment went viral.
The fire that engulfed a two-storey unit at the Waterwoods condominium last Saturday was finally extinguished with the arrival of Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
However, this group of residents didn’t wait around for SCDF to arrive and did what they could do at the moment. They gathered on each balcony, aiming jets of water at the fire.
Koh, one of the residents said that he was alerted to the situation after his wife heard an unusual cracking sound. Koh had undergone training in emergency fire response before so that made him react to the situation rationally.
Dragging the fire hose reel from the common area of their condo, he, accompanied by a few other neighbours, began spraying water at the blaze.
About 100 residents from the affected block were evacuated. Some people online pointed out that not all fire can be extinguished with water, but we just feel they did the best they could do and we should appreciate their efforts.
Good job, good samaritans! Keep up the spirit of togetherness.
