So, Chris Evans unfortunately did something recently.
Let’s not pretend to not know things. We all saw it and now we all know about it. The issue here is big, guys.. but we’re here now to spread a more important message- beyond the fact that Captain America accidentally leaked his nudes.
Let’s take this moment to talk about online shaming. No matter how much we speak of equality and respecting the privacy of others, it almost always fails to be portrayed on social media. The Avengers star got it ‘easy’ because people really took it as an ‘accident’ and started posting memes about him accidentally sharing the explicit photo on his Instagram stories.
On a more serious note, this got us thinking, what would have happened if the same mistake was done by a female celebrity, instead? Would it still be taken lightly? Or would she be labelled as ‘attention seeking’, ‘asking for it’ or even ‘how can she accidentally post something like that?’, among worse things?
Yes, we have those tweets flooding the internet as well.
Let people live. Let them do what they want and if your principles do not match others’, you can always, block, unfollow or unfriend them. Posting hate comments isn’t going to get you anywhere.
We don’t like to nag but sometimes, little things like this really show how much we preach and support empowerment and equality. Just saying you support equality isn’t enough. Let’s show it in our actions as well.
So, the next time you see something similar, just keep scrolling or if you really care about their dignity, DM them instead of shaming.
