A man in Brisbane, Australia recently survived a house fire at his home, after his pet parrot sounded the alarm before the smoke detectors kicked in.

Anton Nguyen was sound asleep when the incident occurred in the middle of the night, and he was lucky to escape unharmed after Eric, his parrot, alerted him to danger.

“I heard a bang and Eric - my parrot - he started to yell so I woke up and I smelled a bit of smoke. I grabbed Eric, opened the door and looked to the back of the house, and saw some flames, and so I took off and bolted downstairs,” he said.

Officials said Nguyen’s home did have a smoke detector, but it didn’t go off before Eric started calling “Anton! Anton!”

“I'm in shock but I'm fine. Everything's alright so long as I have myself and the bird,” Nguyen added.

It’s understood that the fire was pretty serious, and it took firefighters an hour and a half to put it out.

Investigators have also declared the fire a crime scene and are looking into what caused it.

Parrots usually call out to members of its flock to locate where they are, and they often consider their human companions as one of their flock.

Tragic story, but still cute!
