Postpartum Depression And What To Do To Feel Better

If you’ve had a baby or if any close family member or friend had one, you’d probably be familiar with the term ‘postpartum depression’.

Just like the Monday blues, new mothers tend to have the ‘baby blues’ and that’s totally common. They’d usually feel a little anxious, sad, worried or fatigued. Sources say that these feelings normally fade away within a few weeks. 
 

However, postpartum depression is a little different than the baby blues because it is a lot more powerful and lasts longer. The below are some of the notable symptoms of the disorder.

While it's hard to deal with mothers who are suffering from postpartum depression, it is important that we know when and how to support and be there for them. Little things mean a lot, you know. 

Here are some tips from HealthLine on how to treat postpartum depression. 

There are two ways in which you can get treatment; medication and therapy. You can consult a doctor to determine which of the two you’d need. Also, it is important to make healthy choices in your daily routine and chores. 
 

Medication such as antidepressant helps you to alter and regulate your mood. But be sure to tell your doctor if you’re breastfeeding so they can prescribe the pills that are safe for breastfeeding mothers.

Therapy on the other hand, offers you strategies for working through your mood swings and bad days. 

If you are not ready to go to the doctor, try to make self-care a priority. Your baby can be under the care of a family member while you have some much needed me time. 

Here’s what you can do: 

  • Join support groups

  • Take a walk

  • Eat balanced meals 

  • Meditate 

  • Talk to someone

  • Listen to music

  • Go for a relaxing massage
