Running With A Mask On May Not Be A Great Idea In The Long Term

Stay healthy, but also please stay safe.

With the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in place, we are slowly heading out, just as long as we maintain our social distance. However, this one’s to the joggers and runners out there. Here’s a gentle reminder to you; that wearing a mask while running might not be a great idea in the long run.

A Chinese man from Wuhan, the initial epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic collapsed, following a 2.5 mile run last week, two weeks after beginning his outdoor exercise.

The 26 year-old suffered a condition known as pneumothorax, which occurs when air leaks outside the lung. What caused it? Officials seem to believe it’s the wearing of a mask while running.

His left lung was compressed by 90% and his heart was moved to the right side of his body!

That sounds really scary and if you think it’s less likely to happen to you, let us remind you that it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

So to those who are back on their tracks, please stay safe or perhaps try going to indoor gyms for now. Try not to wear a mask when you're running, if you're already practising social distancing. This is all going to be over soon, hang in there.
