As an adult, camping means far more than just grilling chicken wings by the fire and sleeping in a tent. It’s about unplugging and getting away from work emails. It’s about spending quiet me time in nature and just breathing in fresh air—a mere 20 minutes of outdoor time is enough to boost your vitality levels!
But where do you go in Malaysia when you want to pitch a tent and sleep under the stars?

#1 Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping
Location: Ranau, Sabah
It’s not everyday you get to wake up and be greeted by the majestic sight of Mount Kinabalu. Hounon Ridge offers that for its campers, while also throwing in a starry sky, fresh mountain air and cool breeze in your hair!
Getting here can be a slightly challenging drive, but the view more than makes up for it. And when you’re tired of the view (as if!), you can move on to other attractions such as the Mount Kinabalu Park (11km away) and the Desa Dairy Farm in Kundasang (22km away).
Catering to the young and old, the camping fee is very affordable. It only costs RM20 (adult) and RM15 (teens between 7 to 18 years old) while kids under the age of 7 get to stay for free! There’s a homestay option too if camping isn’t quite your thing.
#2 Kesang Farm
Location: Jasin, Melaka
The unassuming Kesang Farm, which is about 40 minutes away from Melaka town, screams rustic charm. Surrounded by greenery and a lake that you can kayak in, this getaway spot also includes a farm, where the owner grows fruits and vegetables.
You can opt to stay in their new homestay-type rooms, pitch a tent on their campsite, or—and this is our favourite—go to bed in their open-air longhouse overlooking the farm and sunrise. A mattress, pillow and blanket will be provided as the temperatures can get rather chilly at night.
A night here will cost you RM50 (per adult at the campsite) and RM80 (per adult at the long house).
#3 Payung Getaway
Location: Cherating Beach, Pahang
You get the best of both worlds when camping at Payung Getaway because it is strategically wedged between a beach AND a river! It’s a popular spot for family and friends—and some bring their pets along too.
Besides the usual amenities such as communal kitchen and toilets, there’s also a hammock area—perfect for naps, charging stations (if you really can’t stay away from your phone) and tents for rent too. They run
A campsite is available for rent at RM50 per site, per day, but check their social media for surprise promos that pop up occasionally. If you’re travelling with a big group, you also have the option of renting the entire campsite—good for a maximum of 10 tents and 40 people.
#4 Hammocks By The River

Just 30 minutes away from KL city is this gated campsite offering a convenient camping getaway. Like its name, Hammocks By The River has hammocks that well, let you chill by the river. A dip in the cool waters is also highly recommended!
They offer full camping packages inclusive of tents, gas stove, mattresses, lights and more starting at RM140 (one person per tent) and RM180 (two persons per tent). If you’re travelling in a larger group, reach out to them via their website for a quotation.
Now, before you set off on that much-needed nature adventure, it helps to have a ‘sidekick’ that you can tame the wild with. Psst: it comes with lots of storage space for your outdoor gear too!
