The whole of 2017 has been peppered with memorable events for Malaysia and Malaysians. Thus, naturally one would think that things would wind down as we inch closer to the end of the year. Oh, how were we mistaken.
On the 14th of December, we had yet another event to be excited over: the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the 8th instalment to the long-running Star Wars franchise in cinemas.
A mere 2 days later, something even bigger happened. At 8pm on the 16th of December, the search for the Last Jedi Standing kicked off at Piazza, The Curve. The test? A 24-hour endurance challenge. The prize? A once-in-a-lifetime trip to Ireland on a guided tour around the Wild Atlantic Way and Skellig Island, the locations where Star Wars: The Last Jedi was filmed.

Here are the challenges our contestants had to endure to become the Last Jedi Standing…
8.30pm, 16th December: Jedi Battlefront Challenge
The night started off with something simple, a Jedi Battlefront game challenge where contestants are required to complete certain parts of the game in the shortest time with the winner walking away from this challenge with an immunity artefact – Obi Wan Kenobi’s robe.
9.30pm, 16th December: Wet Challenge
Then comes the wet challenge where contestants experience what it’s like to take a swim in the icy planet Hoth by enduring frigid waters. That concludes the events of the first day of the 24-hour challenge.
1am, 17th December: Jedi Blocking Challenge
Just as our contestants were starting to get comfortable with their downtime, the third challenge kicks off in the dead of night. In this challenge, they will have to block or deflect incoming stress balls with their lightsaber in true Jedi style.
6am, 17th December: Force Challenge
Despite having no sleep, the contestants had to prove that they are one with the Force by guessing the items placed in front of them, using only their sense of smell. Sounds easy but try guessing items such as a rubber snake and a bottle of water using only your nose, we dare you.
10am, 17th December: Blaster Shootout Challenge
Being proficient with a lightsaber and being one with the Force isn’t all there is to being a Jedi. In order to be the Last Jedi Standing, our contestants needed to demonstrate that they are proficient with a blaster and are able to shoot down storm trooper standees from a distance.
12pm, 17th December: Heat Challenge
Although pretty self-explanatory, this challenge is nothing to scoff at as contestants had to brave the sweltering heat for 30 mintes, enduring the same harsh conditions that Rey had faced in the deserts of planet Jakku.
1pm, 17th December: Spheral Race
Whilst still recovering from the sweltering heat, the remaining contestants will now have their coordination tested by steering R2-D2 through an obstacle course using an iPad.
3pm, 17th December: DJI Spark Drone Challenge
To properly ensure that our contestants were still in tune with the Force after hours of challenges, they will have to manoeuvre a DJI Spark drone through obstacles in the shortest amount of time using nothing but the drone’s gesture control feature.
5.30pm, 17th December: Jedi Battlefront Challenge
Our final two contestants are brought back to stage 1 before the final challenge. After more than 20 hours of challenges, will they still have the quick response time that’s needed to come up on top in the Jedi Battlefront game?
6pm, 17th of December: Trivia Challenge
In this last challenge that will determine who is the Last Jedi Standing, the contestants will have to answer 10 Star Wars-related questions, proving to everyone that they are well-versed in the lore of Star Wars.
For one, goes the spoils of victory, for the other, it’s the end of the road. Find out who was crowned the Last Jedi Standing in the video below:
