Malaysians’ newsfeeds have lately been clogged with all thing politics, with the current talks about the change of government.
While there are so many news stations out there keeping us updated with what’s happening, we thought of sharing something that is not exactly politics talk, but something we all need to keep in mind before putting forth our opinions.
Here are some dos and don’ts of talking politics:
DOs
1. Get your updates from reliable sources

Always check twice, or thrice before you share an update with your friends.
2. Agree to disagree

We’re not always right, and that’s okay. We don’t have to agree on everything another person says, nor should we expect others to agree to whatever we say.
3. Be aware of your surroundings

When you talk about certain issues, especially regarding politics or the government, make sure to put forth your opinions in a polite manner, and keep in mind that there are ears everywhere.
DON'Ts
1. Don’t be a keyboard warrior
via GIPHY
Don’t assume that nobody would notice the things you say (especially if it’s negative) just because so many others are doing it. Keep your cool and try to keep your opinions to yourself, unless asked.
2. Don’t be a ‘lalang’.
via GIPHY
Stay true to your principles and beliefs. Just because most of the people around you believe in something else, you don’t have to fit in for the sake of it.
3. Don’t spread fake news.

Do not belittle or bash a party you do not support by forwarding anything and everything you hear about them, without properly fact-checking it.
We hope this helps! Remember, never bash someone based on what YOU think.
Don’t get in trouble, guys!
