The Movement Control Order (MCO) has taken a toll on a lot of people, with many still trying to adjust emotionally and physically to their new homebody lifestyle.  Hanging around at home with nothing to do other than to be bombarded with news of the latest cases for COVID-19, it is easy for a lot of us to feel helpless or anxious, and feel as though there is no more good in the world.

And that’s where this new Youtube channel, SomeGoodNews comes in.

there is still good in the world!

SomeGoodNews appeared on the video-sharing platform 2 weeks ago, posting videos of actor John Kransinski telling the viewers, well, some good news. And the reception to the channel exceeded everyone’s expectations.

The six videos posted on the channel have already garnered over 30 million views and currently has 1.7 million subscribers.

“For years now I’ve been wondering; why is there not a news show dedicated entirely to good news?” asked John, saying that that was the reason behind the inception of SomeGoodNews.

On this channel, John is sitting at his desk with a DIY cut out of the SomeGoodNews sign plastered on a wall behind him, and talks about a myriad of feel-good content from around the world.

The stories vary widely and include: a couple getting married in their living room, an elderly man singing to his wife through a window at a nursing home, recovered COVID-19 patients being celebrated at the hospital, and a video compilation of how parents are spending time with their children while stuck at home.

Some of John’s celebrity friends have made special appearances, such as Robert De Niro as a weather correspondent, and John video-calling Steve Carrell to talk about The Office and TV show’s 15th year anniversary.

Aside from sharing wholesome stories, John has created some of his own heartwarming moments as well.

One of the more awesome moments on the channel was when he invited the cast of Hamilton to perform on the video conference platform, Zoom for a little girl who had to miss their show due to the pandemic.

SomeGoodNews posts new videos every Sunday, so if you are looking to put a smile on your face in this trying time, definitely give this channel a go!

And as John said in episode two, “No matter how dark it gets, there is always good in the world”.
