Driving in the cool single seater on a well-paved track may look easy, but that is a far cry from truth. Manoeuvring these vehicles at top speed requires stamina, discipline, skills, and vigorous training. Add the heat of competition and the intensity of the Formula 4 Championships and you’ve got a physically and mentally demanding drive.

So, what exactly is Formula 4?

The FIA Formula 4 (or FIA F4 for short) is a new open-wheel racing car category that was only recently introduced. Its purpose? To create a cost-effective step to assist young drivers around the world to step up into bigger leagues such as F1! Younger drivers such as these 4 Malaysian racers that are making our country proud on the track…

Only 16 years old and already making waves. Nazim Azman is no stranger to the world of racing, having previously raced in the 2015 Asia Cup Series where he claimed a podium spot in Event 2 Race 4. Following his success, Azman then competed in the inaugural Formula 4 South-East Asia Championship (F4 SEA) held at Sepang International Circuit where he was the only the Malaysian to have made the podium in 6 races.

Up was the only way forward for this young racer as he went on to win the fifth and final race in the first leg of the second season of F4 SEA and placed third overall.

In the second leg of the second season of F4 SEA Championship held at the Clark International Speedway in the Philippines in October 2017, Khalid managed to win himself a place on the podium after coming in third in Race 3.

It didn’t take very long since the interview in which Isyraf Danish declared that “I want to focus on being like my hero Sebastian Vettel” before being on the path towards realising that dream. At only 16 years old, Isyraf became the only Malaysian to be crowned event champion in the last leg of the inaugural F4 SEA Championship last season.

Now that you know about the drivers, let’s talk about some of the other stuff about Formula 4 that you may not know about…

  • Austrian-born former Formula 1 driver, Gerhard Berger oversaw its creation
  • Formula 4 South-East Asia is certified by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)

The partnership also made the perfect testbed for the first and only RON 100 fuel in Malaysia. The Petron Blaze 100 RON fuel formulated with TriAction Advantage – a triple action formula – is proven to deliver better engine power, acceleration, responsiveness, and protection while clocking in higher fuel efficiency and mileage.

Aside from reducing frictional loss, its advanced formulation cleans engine nozzles and pistons to help improve fuel combustion, while its low sulfur content helps maximize the life span of a catalytic converter.

To complement the high-performance fuel, cars in the F4 SEA Championship also utilised Petron Blaze Racing Engine Oil, a fully synthetic range of engine oil formulated with TS3™ (Thermal Stress Stabilizing System), for optimum engine protection by providing much needed lubrication against friction caused by the thousands of intricate and fragile moving parts in a high-performance engine.

The best part about both Petron Blaze 100 RON and Petron Blaze Racing Engine Oil is that both are formulated to suit not just racing cars, but to meet the requirements of most ordinary vehicles as well. Petron Blaze 100 RON and Petron Blaze Racing Engine Oil is readily available at over 70 different Petron service stations in Malaysia.
