Sometimes, miracles happen and the story of Albien Emmanuel Gacias is one that will inspire us.
Albien Emmanuel Gacias posted a 10 year challenge post on facebook with the caption “Ten years ago I was just praying to be healed, I didn’t have any idea that You will make me an instrument to heal others as well.”
Albien said that he dreamt about being a doctor after his mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2006 but stopped the thought of being one due to financial constraints.
Then two years later, he found out that he too was diagnosed with a type of lung cancer called Malignant Germ cell tumor at the age of 19.
“At the time when I was diagnosed, I was worried that I would stop studying as a nursing student. And I’m also scared because I’m the eldest in the family.”
He stopped his studies to undergo lobectomy; a surgery to remove parts of his lungs, as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy for 2 years, losing all his hair in the process.
During his recovery, Albien went back to school to continue his studies while he went for regular appointments with the doctor. 10 years later, he’s now a licensed physician!
“I thought that if I become a nurse like the nurses who took care of me while I was in the hospital, I would be able to help those who are sick in my own little way, especially those with cancer.”
He dedicated his success to his mother and brother in his post, who are now “in heaven.”
His mother passed away from her pancreatic cancer and his brother lost his life in an accident. Albien revealed that his brother was one of the main reasons he decided to study medicine too.
“It was difficult at first but at the end of the day, I was more motivated to study hard because I learned how to value life more.”
Here’s his message to those struggling to reach their dreams:
“If you think you will fail in life, there’s always a second chance to make things right. What’s important is not to give up because at the end of the day, you’ll inspire more people with your story.”
Congratulations, Albien. Your story definitely inspired us!
