COVID? What COVID?

Halloween is usually a big event in Tokyo's popular Shibuya district.

Despite the fear that gatherings could worsen the ongoing pandemic, the Shibuya crossing was still flocked by people, for the annual ‘horror’ event.

Although the atmosphere was said to be a little ‘tamer’ compared to previous years, photos put up on social media still showed hundreds of people in their costumes, despite the ongoing pandemic.

So this was Halloween in Shibuya this year, and it was kinda scary. 👻 (Ryusei Takahashi/Tomohiro Osaki photos; more on JT: http://jtim.es/50VT30rhXBn)

They were urged to stay home prior to the festival and the authorities even collaborated with local artists to organise online events, to discourage people from coming out.

The event included a game for users to create avatars and a music festival in virtual Shibuya.

However, some people really like to live life on the edge, as crowds were also seen in Osaka, Fukuoka and other urban centres.

With the festive seasons around the corner in Malaysia, we’d like to urge people to follow the rules and stay safe for a while, at least until the daily cases begin to fall.

Stay safe, and don’t forget to practice physical distancing!
