While you wait for professional help to arrive, here are the steps you should know if you’re involved in an accident:
Step 1: Check for injuries

Firstly, stay calm and check yourself to see if you’re injured. Call out for help if you’re seriously hurt and unable to move. Don’t make any sudden movement.
Allianz has a 24-hour call centre (1800 22 5542) to assist all Motor Comprehensive policyholders, so have their number saved under your favourite contacts. If you’re unharmed, then move on to the next step.
Step 2: Move vehicle to safety

It’s natural for you to want to step out of the vehicle immediately. However, it’s more important to first check your surroundings.
If you’re obstructing traffic, move your vehicle to the side of the road or emergency lane where it’s safer before you proceed with damage control. But if the damage is too severe, call the police and wait for help to arrive. Another option you have is to contact the Allianz Road Rangers service that’ll send a bike brigade (if you’re in the Klang Valley region) or tow truck to be with you and assist you in times like this.
Step 3: Analyse the damage

Ideally, it’s best to take photos of the scene and damage for evidence before moving your vehicle. However, your safety as well as others’ should be prioritised. After ensuring that you’re at a safe spot, be sure to capture all the damage on each vehicle, injuries sustained by the people involved (if any), as well as the vehicle registration plate.
Also, make a note of the time and place of the accident.
Step 4: Exchange details

Regardless of who’s at fault, meet the other driver(s) involved in a civil manner to figure out what caused the accident and how to solve it. Also, get the following information:
- Vehicle model, colour and make
- Driver’s name, address and phone number
- Driver’s IC number and driving license
- Vehicle owner’s name, address and phone number
If it’s a major crash with severe casualties, do take note if there were witnesses or bystanders at the scene that could have seen what happened.
Step 5: Contact insurance provider

If your vehicle cannot function when you’re caught in an accident, don’t panic—you’re not going to be stranded in the middle of the highway. This kind of situation requires a tow truck, and you can get one to come to you by contacting your insurance provider as soon as possible.
Allianz offers a service to tow your damaged vehicle to the police station first so that you can make your police report, and afterwards to an Allianz Authorised Panel Repairer upon request.
Additionally, even for minor accidents, your insurance provider should be able to guide you on how to claim for the damage, the documents required and the nearest panel workshop for repair works. With Allianz Motor Comprehensive Insurance, your claims can be approved as fast as 10 minutes.
Step 6: Go to the police station

Make sure you make a police report within 24 hours. This will be useful when you want to make a claim with your insurance provider. Do keep in mind that if the accident is deemed negligent on your part, you’ll be fined up to RM300, which must be settled within 30 days.
When you’ve filed your report, and if you’re an Allianz Motor Comprehensive policyholder, you will be offered an e-hailing coupon for your journey home from the station.
