We all get haircuts, some more than others, and sometimes we get attracted to discounts and promos at the hair salon too. But things didn’t go too well for this uncle, after he ended up paying RM8280 for a haircut…

This uncle decided to get a haircut at a salon that was having a RM9 ($3) promotion but later found out it was actually RM30 ($10) for non-members, which he’s still okay with.

During the haircut, the hairdresser said that he has a scalp problem and encouraged him to try a hair treatment worth RM268.46 ($89). Before he could respond, another staff member proceeded to apply some liquid on his head.

Apparently, the uncle wasn’t aware that the liquid was the treatment and assumed that it was only normal shampoo.

During the treatment, a third staff member asked him to pay the bill, saying that they only accept cards for payment and gave him a form to fill out.

After the payment was made, his son-in-law received an SMS notification that RM8280 ($2670) was charged to the card for the haircut. Apparently, it’s because the hair salon had also signed the uncle up for 40 sessions of scalp treatment!

Shocked, they went back to the shop to request for a refund, but the salon denied their request- which in turn led to a police report on the matter.

After a long discussion, the shop owner even came out to show them the CCTV footage saying that the uncle “voluntarily” paid for it and she can only refund the amount for 30 treatments, which they refused.

The uncle reported was only in Singapore to visit his daughter from China and was leaving the following week. So either way, he would not be able to use the 40 scalp treatment sessions.

After the media asked the shop owner regarding the issue, she decided to respond saying she’ll refund the full payment and that the shop “will never force their customers to sign any packages involuntarily.”

Hope nobody else falls for this kind of tactics! Have you ever encountered a similar incident like this before? Tell us!
