Will The Class Of 2020 Be Willing To Let Robots Receive Their Scrolls?

Maybe they won’t, but maybe they must.

We all loved going to college, but we didn’t love the assignments as much. Probably the only day we’re all looking forward to other than meeting friends is the day we  get to proudly wear our robes, walk across the stage and receive the scroll… and now it’s not happening? Uncool, coronavirus, uncool!

However, to act according to the new norm, Universitiy Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) in Terengganu recently proposed the use of robots as real-life student avatars to receive the scrolls. Umm..

Since all convocations have been postponed and cancelled this year to abide by the rules of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), which prohibits mass gatherings, authorities from UniSZA demonstrated what the future of education may look like in the ‘new normal’.

This actually looks cool, though. Using the availability of live-streaming, the graduates’ faces were displayed on screens located on the robots’ heads. But the question now is, would you let a let a robot take credit for all your hard work?

On a Facebook post on UniSZA’s page, many commented that they would still prefer to physically collect their scrolls.

While a few said that they are excited to see this technological advancement, others said that they would rather wait for their delayed convocation.

However, the university has stressed that the video posted was a mere proof-of-concept, to be brought for further discussion.

Do you like this technologically advanced idea?
