We’re so proud of our Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change, who was named as one of Nature’s Top 10 People Who Mattered In Science this year.
Nature, a well-esteemed international scientific journal which publishes the finest peer-reviewed research in all fields of science and technology, placed Yeo Bee Yin on the seventh spot as a “force for the environment”.

The journal noted that since Yeo became the Minister on 2 July, she has made several bold steps in reforming how Malaysia manages its environment and research, including her goal to increase renewable energy from 2% to 20% of total energy generation by 20130, to reform the electricity market and to ramp up energy efficiency.
Yeo has also been battling against plastic pollution; she set a nationwide ban on the import of plastic waste in Malaysia, and launched a 12-year roadmap and legal framework towards eliminating single-use plastic in Malaysia by 2030.
