You may already know that when you delete or unsend a message on Instagram, it is gone for good. However, on Whatsapp, there’s this embarrassing “This message has been deleted” comment, which doesn’t help much in covering up our unintentional messages.
So here we have a new feature on Whatsapp that allows us to send disappearing messages. We’re not quite sure about why it’s set to seven days but here’s what it does.
The feature currently allows only admins in a group chat to adjust it, and this will not affect messages that have been sent or received prior to enabling it.
If you have turned on the auto download for the media you receive in chats, the photos and videos sent in the disappearing message will also be deleted after seven days.
If the app is not opened for seven days, the messages will still disappear.

Now, here are some conditions where the messages could be seen even after the seven-day mark.
If the app was not launched for seven days, the notification bars showing the previews of messages will still be visible, until you launch it again.
If you replied to the disappearing message, it will still be visible, until you delete the reply itself. The same goes to messages that are forwarded.
If you backed up your chat, the messages will be saved. However, if it’s restored for more than a week, the messages will disappear upon restoring the backup.

Cool! Have you tried it yet? Why do you think they enabled this feature?
