One of the great things about living in a multicultural country like Malaysia is the amount of festivities we have throughout the year… which means—plenty of holidays!
This month, we’ve got Chinese New Year to look forward to—you’ve obviously noticed because a lot of places already have their decorations up… since Christmas 😅.
Understandably, there’s going to be a lot of people flocking to the malls to get their CNY shopping done. If you’re heading to the mall—whether it’s for CNY shopping or not—here’s a quick survival guide to make your trip bearable.
#1 Don’t shop during peak hours!
If you don’t want to end up like that ☝ and prefer shopping at your own pace, then avoid going to the mall during times when there’s a lot of people, specifically from 12pm-3pm and 6pm-8.30pm.
#2 Keep yourself hydrated by bringing a water bottle with you
Keep a water bottle with you since you’re going to be doing a lot of walking—it saves you from spending unnecessarily on water!
#3 Make a to-buy list so you don’t get kelam-kabut
Have a shopping plan. Before you make your way to the mall, write down everything you need to buy so that you won’t get distracted and know exactly where you need to go.
#4 You’re going to be walking and standing a lot, so make sure you’re wearing comfortable shoes
Yup—ladies, avoid high heels if you don’t want your feet to be sore later!
#5 Pick a mall that’s accessible via transportation so that you can avoid traffic jam and parking nightmares

Don’t want to deal with bad traffic and limited parking? Then go to a mall that you can easily get to via public transportation like the LRT.
A mall that’s easily accessible via public transportation is Avenue K—it’s directly connected to the KLCC LRT station! If you don’t feel like taking the train, then just Grab your way there by using the discount code ‘AKCNY20’.

#6 If you can’t avoid the crowd, then head to a mall with plenty of festive activities—you’ll have so much fun!
Sometimes, crowds are inevitable—but it helps when there are plenty of fun things to do at the mall.
