Usually, it’s fans who search high and low to collect rare albums of their favorite artists. But for singer and composer Edry Abdul Halim, the story took a different turn.

The 49-year-old celebrity shared his excitement after stumbling upon several long out-of-print KRU albums—reKRUed (1993), Awas! (1994), and the compilation album Krumania (1997)—while visiting a vintage store at Amcorp Mall.
Realizing that the albums were no longer in production, Edry decided to purchase them and bring them back to Manchester, England, as personal mementos.
“KRU buying back our own cassettes,” he joked on Instagram. “I was just walking around Amcorp Mall when I came across a vintage shop selling old KRU albums. I know these cassettes won’t be reprinted, so I bought them to keep as memories in Manchester.”
Edry said the albums hold deep sentimental value—something money can’t buy.

“The Awas! album even still had the original KRU Posse membership slip inside. You can always earn money, but memories like these are irreplaceable,” he shared.
However, he chose not to purchase the 1996 album Ooh! La! La! because the cover had been marked.
“There was one copy of Ooh! La! La! I didn’t buy because the original owner had written their name on the cover with a marker. Back then, everyone labeled their belongings that way!”
He also expressed amazement at the condition of the tapes, saying, “Hard to believe these cassettes are over 30 years old.”
For context, over their 33-year career, KRU has released 14 studio albums and three compilation albums, including their most recent, Kaset, launched during the GenKRU concert.
