Emily Blunt is teasing what fans might expect in The Devil Wears Prada 2, and it sounds like her on-screen dynamic with Meryl Streep isn’t getting any softer. While walking the red carpet at the American Institute for Stuttering’s 19th Annual Gala, Blunt, 42, spoke to Entertainment Tonight about returning to the role of sharp-tongued Emily Charlton — and whether her character still has friction with her former boss, Miranda Priestly.

“Why are Meryl and I so mean to each other in every movie we do?” Blunt laughed. “We always have beef. I don’t know what it is. Let’s hope we remedy it. I’m not sure.”
Though she hasn’t yet seen a script, reports suggest Charlton has climbed the fashion ladder and now runs the purse strings of a luxury conglomerate — one that holds the ad money Miranda desperately needs to save her crumbling magazine empire. If true, the sequel sets up a high-stakes power struggle with plenty of potential for stylish tension.
Blunt reflected on the nearly two-decade gap between the original and the upcoming sequel. “Twenty years ago — in a blink, it's gone by,” she said. She also shared that her daughters Hazel and Violet might visit the set, “just for the fashion.”

While Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci haven’t officially confirmed their return, most of the original cast is expected to reprise their roles. The 2006 film — based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel — has become a pop culture staple, with Streep’s icy editor-in-chief Miranda and Blunt’s ruthless assistant leaving an indelible mark on fashion-focused cinema.
According to Variety, the new film follows Miranda’s fall from print media royalty, as she tries to stay afloat in a digital world — and possibly squares off against Emily, now a powerful executive holding all the cards. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated to hit theaters May 1, 2026.
