Malaysia is undergoing some major changes this year, and guess what’s new on the education line?
A fingerprint scanner to monitor student’s attendance! Waah, almost everything is going digital these days!
According to Ajar Malaysia, SMK Bandar Tenggara is the first school in Johor to apply a biometric system to keep track of their students’ attendance. The Principal, Noraini Mohd Nor said the school wants to achieve an attendance KPI of 95% by the end of this year.
Here’s how the system works:

The students are required to scan their fingers at the terminals upon arriving. This information will then be reflected on the Pepatih MySekolah app, which can be accessed by teachers and parents to confirm their attendance.
Besides overcoming the truancy issue, this actually acts as a notification alert for parents to ensure that their children have arrived to school safely.
Kudos to the new government! We really hope this move eventually helps to improve the nation’s overall school attendance.
