“Alamak... alamak… alamak! Alamak Raya lagi…”
The popular Hari Raya song by local trio De Fam isn’t the only thing that went viral (for good reasons) during this year’s festivities. Several Malaysians made the news for their acts of kindness during the balik kampung season too…
ICYMI, here are some heartwarming stories of Malaysians taking care of each other
#1 Colleagues travelled hundreds of KMs just to visit their friend
TikTok user @intan.ayunii received a lovely surprise this Raya when her Chinese colleagues and their families travelled all the way from KL to Perak just to celebrate with her. “We give them A+ for their efforts for coming! Selamat Hari Raya, geng!” her caption reads.
Netizens were also impressed by their dedication, with comments describing the gesture as an excellent example of diversity and unity.
#2 Villagers repaired pathway so motorists can travel smoothly
In Perak, a group of Chinese villagers levelled an unpaved road riddled with bumps to ensure safe passage for motorists that were returning home for Raya.
One of the motorists, Zairul Annuar, explained in his Facebook post that not only did the villagers help to fix the road, they gave him tips on which route to take to avoid traffic too! Expressing his gratitude, Zairul wrote, “This is amazing. This is the true spirit of Malaysia.”
#3 Family in Terengganu offered their toilet to motorists caught in jam
A family in Kampung Beris Tokku, Terengganu, opened up their home’s toilet to motorists who found themselves in standstill traffic while travelling home for Raya.
This wasn’t the first time the family had made such an offer. They did the same thing in 2023 during Raya too. What a generous move!
#4 Terengganu men handed out watermelon to motorists
Also in Kampung Beris Tokku, Terengganu, a group of men distributed free watermelons to road users who were stuck in traffic and caught under the scorching sun.
The gesture saw TikTok users flooding the comment section of one of the drivers’ posts, praising the men for their kindness.
Here’s another good news if you’ve got more balik kampung adventures lined up…
