Keira Knightley revealed that Love Actually director Richard Curtis made her re-shoot her iconic cue card scene with co-star Andrew Lincoln in order to make it less "creepy."

Knightley, who portrayed Juliet in the 2003 holiday classic, shared that she had to reshoot the scene where Lincoln’s character, Mark, confesses his love for her using a series of handwritten cue cards. According to Keira, the original version of the scene made Mark’s grand gesture feel “stalker-ish,” and Richard Curtis was quick to point it out.

“My memory is of Richard, who is now a very dear friend, watching me do the scene and saying, ‘No, you’re looking at [Andrew] like he’s creepy,’” Keira explained during an interview with Variety published on December 6. She responded, “But it is quite creepy.”

To address this, Keira adjusted her facial expression and re-shot the scene to ensure Mark appeared less intimidating, saying she “had to redo it to fix my face to make him seem not creepy.”

While the scene, in which Mark shows up at Juliet’s doorstep and confesses his love with cue cards, has become one of the most iconic romantic moments in film history, Keira still sees a “creep factor” in it—especially considering that she was only 17 when it was filmed.

Keira isn’t the only one who feels the scene may have an uncomfortable undertone. Last year, Richard Curtis, who wrote and directed the film, admitted that he now views Mark’s confession as a “bit weird.”

Though these moments have become unforgettable parts of cinematic history, the stars of Love Actually have no hesitation in sharing their mixed feelings about some of the film's most iconic scenes.
