Before his Emmy-winning portrayal of Roman Roy in Succession, Kieran Culkin was already making his mark as the mischievous “Fuller” McCallister in Home Alone (1990) and its sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). However, in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Culkin admitted that he had "no idea" why people found Home Alone so funny.

“I had no idea what that movie was about when I saw it, and I was in it,” Culkin recalled of the first Home Alone. He continued, “I was at the premiere, and I was dying laughing. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I had no idea what the movie was about.”
In the first film, Culkin’s character, Fuller, is Kevin McCallister's (played by Macaulay Culkin) cousin. Kevin complains about sharing a bed with Fuller after being sent to the attic by his mom, Kate (Catherine O'Hara). At just 8 years old, Culkin admitted that he didn’t understand much about the plot or his role.
He revealed that the only instructions he received were simple: "Drink this Coke, wear the glasses, say the thing you memorized, look cute, and go home." Culkin also shared a funny anecdote about his fellow castmate, Devin Ratray, who played the eldest McCallister brother, Buzz.

“Devin Ratray, the guy who plays Buzz, lied to me and told me the movie was all about him. And I believed him. And then when I saw it, the movie’s cracking me up, and I go, ‘Mac was on set all the time. That makes sense the movie would be all about him,’” Culkin said.
Since his time as Fuller, Culkin has built an impressive career, with roles in projects like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and the upcoming 2024 film A Real Pain, written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, which is already generating Oscar buzz.
