Lauren Graham is ready to return to Stars Hollow—just not in the way fans might expect.
The actress, best known for playing Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls from 2000 to 2007, recently shared her idea for a potential second revival following Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016. And instead of a full-fledged series, she believes a holiday movie might be the perfect way to revisit the beloved show.

"Given everyone's lives and schedules, it's a Christmas movie," Lauren revealed during the March 9 episode of the Armchair Expert podcast. "It’s not me trying to dodge the question. It’s just what I can actually picture happening."
She pointed to British television as an inspiration, noting how some beloved shows return for special holiday episodes rather than full seasons. "The Brits do it so well," she explained. "It’s not a whole season, but you still get to see all your favorite characters together again."
Lauren even referenced her recent holiday-themed commercial for Walmart, where she reunited with Scott Patterson—who played Luke Danes—as a glimpse into what a Gilmore Girls reunion could feel like.

But if a Christmas special were to happen, she emphasized that it wouldn’t be a carbon copy of the original series. "Now, Lorelai and Luke are married. Rory might be having a baby. So, it wouldn’t just be the two of us circling the gazebo anymore," she added.
Netflix’s A Year in the Life brought Gilmore Girls fans back to Stars Hollow nearly a decade after the show’s original finale. While Lauren found the experience deeply fulfilling, she acknowledged that some fans had mixed reactions to the revival.
"For me, it was incredibly satisfying," she said. "I cried every day on set. I felt growth in Lorelai’s character and my own experience working with [creator] Amy [Sherman-Palladino]. But I know not everyone felt like they got the closure they wanted."
With that in mind, Lauren wonders what the best path forward would be for a potential revival. "How do you honor the fans who have kept the show alive?" she mused. "Do you give them more? Do you take a different approach, like what Reese Witherspoon is doing with Legally Blonde? Or do you leave it as it is?"

Though she isn’t sure if Gilmore Girls should return, Lauren is open to the possibility.
"I still get asked if it’s better to leave people wanting more," she admitted. "I don’t know. Thankfully, it’s not up to me. But what I’ve made clear is—if someone calls me to do it, I’ll do it."
For now, fans will have to wait and see if Stars Hollow gets another chapter—or maybe just a little Christmas magic.
