Leighton Meester is mourning the loss of her Gossip Girl costar Michelle Trachtenberg, who died in February at age 39 due to complications from diabetes mellitus.

In a new interview with Flaunt magazine, Meester opened up about the heartbreak of losing someone so close in age. “It’s devastating,” she said. “She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”
The two worked together on the hit teen drama Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007 to 2012 and has continued to build a legacy in the years since. “It’s amazing how the show still resonates,” Meester reflected. “Even more now in some ways.”
Meester’s tribute follows heartfelt messages from other Gossip Girl castmates. Penn Badgley recently called Trachtenberg’s death “really surreal, really saddening,” recalling, “She was incredibly quick to laugh. She was really joyous.”

Blake Lively also shared her own memories, calling Trachtenberg a vibrant presence. “You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed,” she wrote on Instagram. “She was fiercely loyal, bold, and distinctly herself.”
Lively added a more intimate detail: “She always had yummy caramel-smelling lipgloss on… she cared about the sweet details. She didn’t just want to sparkle on camera—she wanted to create a nice experience for anyone in her orbit.”
As the Gossip Girl cast continues to honor her legacy, it’s clear Michelle Trachtenberg left a lasting impact—on screen and off.
