Lisa Kudrow is cherishing a heartfelt memento from her late Friends co-star Matthew Perry. During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Kudrow revealed that Perry gifted her a cookie jar prop shaped like a clock from the show's set. The gesture came at the end of their final episode together.
"Matthew gave that to me at the end of our last episode," Kudrow shared. She also recently rediscovered a personal note Perry had left inside the jar. "I hadn't opened it up or looked inside of it, but yeah, he did. He had a note in there, and I forgot about it. Timing is everything," she said.
The cookie jar clock first appeared in the season 8 episode "The One With the Cooking Class," where Phoebe (played by Kudrow) helps Chandler (played by Perry) prepare for a job interview by curbing his habit of making pun-based jokes.
Kudrow has previously spoken about how this seemingly innocuous prop became a treasured keepsake. In a 2020 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she shared that Perry’s gift came at an emotional moment.
She also recounted the origin of its inside joke: "I had a line in a scene, 'Ooh, I better get going!' But I didn’t have a watch, and I realized too late. So, as the words came out, I pointed at the cookie jar and said, 'Ooh, look at the time! I gotta go!' After we finished shooting, Matthew said, 'Did you just point at the cookie jar and say, Look at the time?'"
Kudrow’s Drew Barrymore Show appearance comes just over a year after Perry’s untimely passing at the age of 54 in October 2023, from the acute effects of ketamine.
Since Perry’s death, Kudrow and her fellow Friends castmates have shared heartfelt stories of their late friend. Kudrow recently reflected on Perry’s unique comedic talent, particularly during their first table read for the Friends pilot.
"When we had that first table read, what Matthew was doing didn’t sound like what I thought I was going to hear," she said. "It was like nothing I’ve ever heard before. I went, 'Oh boy.' Matthew was blow-away hilarious."
Perry’s unforgettable humor and warmth continue to resonate with his co-stars and fans alike, ensuring his legacy as one of television’s most beloved comedic talents.
