Melissa Joan Hart fondly reminisces about the cherished holiday traditions that have shaped her life. In a recent PEOPLE article, the 48-year-old actress reflected on the festive ways she celebrated Christmas while working on the set of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Hart, who starred in the beloved series from 1996 to 2003, revealed that filming the Christmas episodes in October gave the cast and crew an early dose of holiday cheer. Beyond the occasional keepsakes she would bring home from the festive episodes, her mother, Paula Hart—who served as the show’s executive producer—played a key role in making the holidays memorable for everyone on set.
“My favorite tradition on the set of Sabrina was when Santa would come,” Hart recalled with a laugh. “Somehow, my mom was never around when Santa was there. It was this very small Santa with a really bad beard.”

She explained that it became a yearly tradition for everyone to sit on “Santa’s” lap, including a crew member they affectionately called “Big George.” Hart shared the humorous memory of Big George, a large man, lifting his feet off the ground for a comically exaggerated photo while perched on Santa’s lap. “We have so many pictures of Big George picking his feet up, sitting on Santa’s lap,” she said fondly.
Now, as a mother of three, Hart has carried some of her own childhood traditions into her family life. One favorite involves making her sons—Mason, 18, Braydon, 16, and Tucker, 12—wait at the top of the stairs on Christmas morning, just as she and her siblings did growing up.

“I love that tradition of making my kids wait at the top of the stairs,” Hart shared. “There are so many pictures of me as a kid, and now of my kids, sitting at the top of the stairs, just waiting. That anticipation, right before running downstairs to see the gifts—it’s like walking through the gates of Disneyland. It’s even better than tearing open the presents.”
From her early days on set to her current role as a mother, Melissa Joan Hart continues to embrace the magic of the holiday season while creating meaningful memories with her family.
