Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep is in early talks to voice Aslan, the majestic lion, in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Chronicles of Narnia adaptation for Netflix. Sources confirm the discussions, although no official offer has been made yet.

Aslan, a key figure in C.S. Lewis’ beloved Narnia series is traditionally depicted as a male lion who serves as the guardian and guide for the children who enter the magical world. In Gerwig’s film, which will adapt The Magician’s Nephew, Aslan is expected to be reimagined as a female character.
Narnia fans know that The Magician’s Nephew serves as the origin story of Narnia, focusing on characters Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, who discover the magical world through Digory’s uncle’s mysterious magic. The film will explore Narnia's creation, setting the stage for the events that unfold in the other novels.

In addition to Streep, other big names are reportedly involved in the project. Charli XCX is said to be in talks to play the White Witch, while Daniel Craig is being courted for the role of Digory's uncle. The movie is set to begin production later this year.
The film marks Gerwig’s follow-up to Barbie, which became Warner Bros.' highest-grossing film, and will be Netflix’s first major entry into the Narnia franchise. The movie is set for an exclusive two-week Imax release in Thanksgiving 2026, before streaming on the platform.
Streep, who recently starred in Only Murders in the Building, has not appeared in a film since Don’t Look Up in 2021. She is also rumored to be involved in a series adaptation of The Corrections and a The Devil Wears Prada sequel.
