It’s a gloomy day for all the fashion lovers.
As we all know, the annual MetBall that was supposed to happen on May 4th was postponed due to the pandemic. This year’s theme was “About Time” and it’s about time they tell us when it’s postponed to… but a Met spokesperson confirmed that this year’s Met has been officially called off instead.
In fact, all talks, tours, concerts and events at The Met throughout the year have been called off.
The Costume Institute’s curator, Andrew Bolton explained that theme was inspired by Virginia Woolf novels and theories of the early 20th century French philosopher, Henri Bergson, who believed times was an ever-evolving stream.
The exhibit at the Met was expected to feature 160 pieces of women’s fashion that surround the theme from the last 150 years. Unfortunately, none of that is happening and the team will focus on next year’s exhibition. The theme hasn’t been revealed just yet.
While we are sad about all the tours and shows that are being cancelled, we also understand that the measure is taken for everyone’s good. There’s no way one can practise social distancing around 600 attendees, the crew, cameramen and the paparazzi.
So take a deep breath, and let’s hope for a Met Gala next year.
