Michelle Yeoh, known for her groundbreaking performances, recently opened up about a challenging period in her career when she nearly walked away from acting. The 62-year-old actress revealed during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show that an unexpected pep talk from director Quentin Tarantino helped reignite her passion for the craft.

"I was in Hong Kong and feeling depressed after suffering a serious accident while filming a stunt," Michelle shared, according to People. "I felt hopeless and started rethinking my career in action films, wondering if I should step back."
It was during this low point that Michelle met Quentin Tarantino, who offered her a perspective that changed everything. "He was so enthusiastic and told me, 'If you love something, you have to find a better way to do it,'" she said, recalling his words of encouragement.

Although the Pulp Fiction director never cast Michelle in his films, he shared a humorous reason why. "When I asked him about Kill Bill and why he hadn’t thought of me, he said, ‘No one would believe Uma Thurman could kick your ass!’” Michelle recounted with a laugh.
Thankfully, Michelle chose to persevere, continuing to star in action-packed films like Supercop, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Tomorrow Never Dies. Her determination culminated in a career-defining moment in 2023 when she won her first Academy Award for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

The historic win made Michelle the first Asian woman to receive the Oscar for Best Actress. In her heartfelt acceptance speech, she dedicated the achievement to those who dared to dream.
"For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities," she said. "Dream big, and dreams do come true. And ladies, don’t let anyone tell you that you are ever past your prime. Never give up."
Michelle also reserved a special tribute for her biggest supporter—her mother. "I have to dedicate this to my mom, all the moms in the world, because they are truly the superheroes," she said. "She's 84, and I'm taking this home to her. She's watching right now in Malaysia with my family and friends. I love you all, and I'm bringing this home to you."
From a near departure from acting to making history, Michelle Yeoh's journey stands as an inspiring testament to resilience, passion, and believing in oneself.
