Travelers passing through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2 may have noticed an innovative upgrade in immigration clearance. Malaysia's Immigration Department has introduced 40 QR code-enabled auto gates aimed at reducing congestion and speeding up the process.

Here's a quick guide to using the MyBorderPass app in just five simple steps:
Step 1: Download and Register the MyBorderPass App
First, head to the Google Play Store or the App Store and download the MyBorderPass app. Once installed, open the app and tap on 'REGISTER NOW' to create your account.
Step 2: Scan and Link Your Passport
After registration, scan your passport and enter your passport and contact details to link them to the app.
Step 3: Complete Biometric Verification
Take a selfie for biometric verification. Once approved, create a secure 4-digit PIN to log in.
Step 4: Generate Your QR Code
Before traveling, log in to the app using your PIN. The app will generate a unique QR code linked to your identity and travel details.
Step 5: Use the QR Code at the Autogate
At KLIA, go to the QR code lanes. Open the app, scan your QR code at the autogate, and complete face verification. If you need assistance, an officer will be nearby to help.
Key Things to Remember When Using the MyBorderPass App
- Carry Your Passport: Despite the QR code, you still need your passport for the remainder of your journey.
- Eligibility: The app is available to Malaysian citizens and travelers from 63 eligible countries, including the UK, Singapore, and Japan.
- Manual Counters: If you prefer, traditional immigration counters are still available.
This new feature makes navigating through KLIA's immigration process faster and more efficient, offering a more seamless travel experience.
