Two decades after the release of her iconic hit "Unwritten," Natasha Bedingfield is still embracing the song’s enduring influence—and so are her fans.

At the Cirque Du Soleil’s Luzia NYC Premiere, the British singer-songwriter, now 43, spoke with PEOPLE about the timeless nature of her music and the heartfelt messages she receives from fans.
“Watching this song continue to live its life feels like waves rolling in,” Bedingfield shared. “I’m just a surfer, riding them. The song is bigger than me, and I love that.”
Known for its uplifting lyrics and anthemic chorus, Unwritten has taken on a life of its own, resonating with listeners across generations.
“People come up to me after shows and tell me how much the song has helped them,” she said. “Recently, I’ve been hearing from fans who say it makes them feel like their inner child is healing. That’s such a beautiful thing to be a part of.”

For Bedingfield, performing Unwritten still feels just as powerful as it did when it first topped the charts in 2004.
“I feel like a Beatle up there because everyone is singing with so much abandon,” she said. “It’s exactly what we imagined when we wrote it—just people releasing their inhibitions and screaming it at the top of their lungs. It’s an incredible experience.”
Beyond celebrating her past hits, Bedingfield is gearing up for an exciting season of performances.
“I have so many festivals lined up, and I’m thrilled,” she said. “My band is amazing, and after all these years, my show has only gotten better. Everyone sings along, and it’s always a great time.”

While Unwritten and Pocketful of Sunshine remain fan favorites, she also enjoys covering classic songs.
“I love performing new music, but I also love singing other artists’ songs,” she shared. “‘Purple Rain’ has this magic to it—when I sing it, it feels like opening a secret door to something extraordinary.”
With a career spanning over two decades, Bedingfield continues to inspire with her music, proving that some songs truly stand the test of time.
