The FireAid benefit concert, held on January 30, 2025, at the Kia Forum, was packed with star-studded performances, but the biggest surprise of the night came from Nirvana’s surviving members.

Drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic, and guitarist Pat Smear took the stage together once again, joined by a lineup of female rock legends filling the void left by the late Kurt Cobain. During their set, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Joan Jett each took a turn singing iconic Nirvana tracks, making for a memorable tribute to the band's legendary frontman.
St. Vincent kicked things off with a powerful rendition of “Breed,” followed by Gordon’s performance of “School,” and Jett’s take on “Territorial Pissings.” But the real heartwarming moment came when Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter, Violet, joined the band for an emotional cover of “All Apologies.” The performance ended with a touching father-daughter duet, as Grohl beamed with pride.
This isn’t the first time these women have joined Nirvana onstage. In 2014, Jett, St. Vincent, and Gordon were part of a performance during the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where Lorde also filled in on vocals. The all-female lineup was soon dubbed “Hervana,” a nickname that has since stuck.

The FireAid concert, which raised funds for wildfire relief, also featured other notable performances from Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, and more. The event, held across two venues in Los Angeles, included performances by Stevie Nicks, No Doubt, and Joni Mitchell, among others. Lady Gaga sang “Shallow” from A Star is Born, while Billie Eilish performed “Birds of a Feather” alongside her brother Finneas.
While Dave Matthews was originally scheduled to perform, he withdrew due to a family illness, leaving fans disappointed but still treated to a night of incredible music for a good cause.
