RapidKL has announced the launch of women-only coaches on the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling line, starting December 31, 2024. This initiative marks the first time women-only coaches are being introduced on RapidKL’s LRT network.
The concept is not entirely new to Malaysia’s rail system. The MRT Kajang Line first implemented women-only coaches in September 2023, followed by the MRT Putrajaya Line in April 2024. However, the idea dates back even further, with KTM Komuter pioneering women-only coaches as early as April 2010.
The initiative is designed to enhance safety and provide a more comfortable commuting experience for women. The pink-themed coaches will feature clear signage and floor decals to indicate that they are reserved exclusively for women.
RapidKL’s move underscores a continued effort to create gender-specific accommodations across Malaysia’s rail networks, following the successful rollout of similar initiatives on other lines.
