You know when they say “chase your dreams, you might catch one”? Well...Scrat from Ice Age literally CAUGHT his dream when he finally got his hands on the acorn!

As you animation fans may already know, Scrat is the lovable and unlucky (no, really) saber-toothed squirrel from the Ice Age franchise that has appeared throughout the series of films, as well as a number of his own short films.

In previous Ice Age films, Scrat struggled to keep hold of its beloved food treasure, and it never failed to result in catastrophic events. The long-running bit has seen the creature chase the acorn from land to sea to space throughout his run in the films, but never succeeding in either keeping or eating the prized nut!

However, animation studio Blue Sky Studios, has finally let Scrat get his beloved acorn. At last!

The animation company posted a video on social media showing the adorable squirrel chow down on the acorn and he seems to do it with absolute pleasure. Watch the video here!

Seeing Scrat finally accomplish its mission will surely bring some closure to those who have endlessly wished for the moment to arrive in the Ice Age series. Others however may be sad to see it end, as the clip was released to mark Blue Sky’s last production as a studio.

When uploading the video to YouTube, Blue Sky said: "In the final days of Blue Sky Studios, a small team of artists came together to do one final shot. This shot is a farewell, a send-off on our own terms."

We’re not crying…

Co-founder Chris Wedge announced on social media that Blue Sky Studios was shutting down permanently, thanking fans of the films and creators behind the studio.

Chris said that Scrat was their official mascot as he became such a cinematic icon over the years.

“For the past thirty-four years, we, like our single minded character Scrat, have reached for something that at times seems unattainable. Yet time after time we’ve managed to get our arms around our own versions of that elusive acorn.” he said.

“Unfortunately, it’s not possible to hold onto anything forever.

“We’ve had more fun bringing our movies to life than anyone should be allowed. We hope you’ve been able to feel some of that joy. Thank you, from the bottom of our collective Blue Sky hearts, for being with us all these years.”

Following the farewell video posted nearly a year after the studio's closure, fans who grew up with the films took to Twitter to share their sentiments.

Blue Sky Studios was a computer animation company active from 1987 to 2021, most widely known for their animated feature films in the early 2000s to 2010s including Rio, Robots, Horton Hears a Who! and The Peanuts Movie.

Following the Disney and 20th Century Fox merger in 2019, Blue Sky Studios remained under Disney Animation until the pandemic impacted their business negatively.

While this doesn't necessarily mean the end for Scrat, it likely does for the Blue Sky Studios animators who worked so hard to bring this lovable creature to life for the last two decades.

The Ice Age franchise, however, won’t be ending anytime soon as a sixth Ice Age film is reportedly in the works, though it is unclear if it will be part of the main story or another spin-off.

How do you feel about Blue Sky Studios posting the farewell video of Scrat? We can confirm that it left us teary-eyed!
