The authorities continue the search for the driver of a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) that plunged into the sea after a collision with another car on the Penang Bridge, yesterday.

The driver who is yet to be found, is believed to be Moey Yun Peng, a 20-year-old college student from Taman Kempas, Butterworth. His father lodged a missing person report after realising that his son’s car was involved in the accident on the bridge.
Through the investigation, Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm, Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid, said that Yun Peng could have been on his way back home after attending a birthday party when the dreadful incident happened.
He added that the Penang Bridge authorities will be called in to pull the SUV out of the sea once it is located.
Meanwhile, Marine Police Region 1 commander Asst Comm, Rosman Ismail, said that the search operation will resume at 7am today after being called off 12 hours ago. A firefighter from the Fire and Rescue Department said that the depth of the seabed was about 20 meters.
The search party, which involves two boats from the department, two boats from the Marine Police and one from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency,was conducted yesterday within a 15m radius, but strong currents made the operation more difficult.
Yesterday, it was reported that the SUV was hit by a speeding black car on the bridge. A 20-second dashcam video from a witness showed the black car weaved into the slow lane from the fast lane at a high speed. The driver crashed into Yun Peng’s white SUV, which was in the fast lane after losing control of his vehicle.
The black car was found badly damaged, at the scene and the driver, aged 21, has been sent to the hospital for treatment.

ACP Nik Ros also mentioned that an investigation is going on for reckless and dangerous driving under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
