In the age of artificial intelligence, people are increasingly turning to chatbots not just for help with work or writing — but for matters of the heart. Grace Carter, 34, says AI played a crucial role in saving her relationship with boyfriend Lucas Martin.
Like many couples, the pair often found themselves in heated arguments. “I didn’t want to be that person constantly moaning about their boyfriend,” Carter told The Mirror, admitting she was exhausted from venting to friends and family. That’s when she decided to try something unconventional: asking ChatGPT for relationship advice.

“It felt a bit mad at first, like confessing to a robot,” she said. “But it was weirdly reassuring. I calmed down and we soon made up.” What began as a one-off turned into regular “sessions” where Carter would use AI to process emotions, find calmer ways to communicate, and even see her partner’s point of view. “It’s not so much telling me what to do,” she added. “It helps me word things better or break the tension without drama.”
Carter says AI became her go-to because it offered perspective without bias — unlike friends who might just echo her feelings. And she’s not alone. Other couples, like Dom Versaci and Abella Bala, have also credited ChatGPT with improving their communication and de-escalating conflict.

But not everyone’s on board. One Reddit user shared his frustration with his girlfriend’s growing reliance on AI to “fact-check” their relationship, saying it felt like being “ambushed by a robot.” And experts advise caution. Ashley Williams, a licensed mental health counselor in New York, said that while AI can be a useful tool, it’s no substitute for professional therapy. “AI doesn’t have the ability to address deeper, more nuanced relationship dynamics,” she explained.
Still, for Carter and others, AI has become a surprising ally in love — a modern sounding board for navigating the ups and downs of romance.
