Ellen Pompeo is keeping her youngest daughter away from Grey’s Anatomy—at least for now. During her March 14 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actress revealed why her 10-year-old daughter, Sienna, isn’t allowed to watch the long-running medical drama, even though her older sister, Stella, 15, has already tuned in.

“My 15-year-old has seen it, and now my 10-year-old wants to see it,” said Ellen, who has played Dr. Meredith Grey since the show’s 2005 debut. “But she’s not ready.”
While many of Sienna’s classmates have already watched Grey’s, Ellen—who shares Sienna, Stella, and 6-year-old son Eli with husband Chris Ivery—has her reasons for holding off.
“No judgment on other parents,” she joked, “but I don’t want my daughter seeing me in my underwear on TV just yet. But all her classmates have, so that makes for great conversation on TikTok.”
After two decades on the show, even Ellen finds herself forgetting some of its most dramatic moments.
“I don’t remember half of it,” the 55-year-old admitted. “I’m just like, ‘Wow, when did that happen?’”

Though she stepped away from her full-time role in 2023, Ellen still narrates the series and makes occasional guest appearances.
And if she ever needs advice on whether Sienna should be allowed to watch, she could always ask Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes—who recently revealed that her own daughter only started watching the show in 2024.
"My not-so-tiny human started watching Grey’s Anatomy for the first time yesterday,” Shonda wrote on Instagram last March. “My brain is breaking. I am dead. DEAD. But so glad she's getting to see the women her mom created.”
