Willem Dafoe, known for his iconic role as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man, recently went viral on TikTok after a candid encounter on the streets of New York City.
In the video, a passerby stopped Dafoe for an impromptu interview, asking him about his profession. Dafoe, 69, responded simply, “I’m an actor,” before the interviewer asked him what he enjoys most about his work. Dafoe shared, “It’s always different. Nothing’s ever the same.”
When asked what advice he would give to aspiring actors, the Nosferatu star offered a humble response, saying, “I don’t give advice. Everybody’s got to find their own way. Just enjoy it.” The interviewer continued, asking how Dafoe would like to be remembered, to which he replied, “I don’t think about that,” adding that he struggles to think beyond the present, even noting, “I have a hard time thinking beyond tomorrow.”
The video sparked a lot of reactions from fans online, many of whom found humor in the exchange. One person commented, “Dude just asked the most recognizable man in the world who he was,” while another joked, “Asking Willem Dafoe what he does for a living is criminal.” Others praised the actor’s humility, with one fan calling him “so humble” for taking the time to chat with the interviewer.
Dafoe, who has been recognized countless times on the streets of New York since his Spider-Man days, once recounted a humorous moment where a group of tough-looking men on the subway debated whether he was indeed the actor, only for one to say, “Yeah, it’s gotta be him.”
