Time flies, huh? Zayn Malik just hit fans right in the nostalgia. During his Stairway to the Sky tour stop in Mexico City on March 25, the former One Direction member surprised the crowd with a performance of “Night Changes”—marking the first time he’s sung it in a decade. Yeah, a whole 10 years since he left 1D.

"It's the first time I've sung that song in 10 years," Malik, 32, told the crowd, according to fan footage shared on X. "Thank you, that was f---ing amazing. I almost cried."
Of course, the internet went wild. The performance instantly went viral, with fans flooding timelines with crying emojis, nostalgic throwbacks, and heartfelt reactions. Some even called it one of the most emotional performances of his career.
“Night Changes” has had a resurgence in the past year, especially after the tragic passing of former bandmate Liam Payne in October 2024. The song, originally released in 2014, has been covered in tribute multiple times—first by Maggie Rogers, then by the Jonas Brothers.
It’s been 10 years since Zayn left One Direction in March 2015, dropping the news via a Facebook statement that left fans shook.
"My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined," he wrote at the time. "But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. … I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."
One Direction—then made up of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne—responded with nothing but love. "We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision," they said in their statement.

Zayn’s been busy carving out his own lane in the music world, but this performance proves 1D nostalgia is alive and well. Whether this is just a one-time thing or a hint at something bigger (a reunion, maybe?!), one thing’s for sure—fans will be talking about this moment for a long time.
And honestly? We’re all just trying to hold it together.
